The LIMESS Messtechnik und Software GmbH was founded in Pforzheim nearby Stuttgart/Germany. LIMESS is specialised in the development
of image analysis systems and developped already in 1998 the first available software for the analysis of high speed camera images. This software AbSpect (airbag inspector) was used to quantify the deployment of
airbags by measuring time resolved elongation, velocity, projection area and contour. The implementation of accurate edge and marker tracking (pattern recognition) techniques extended the application field to the
analysis of any 1D and 2D movement used for seat belt tensioners, sledge movement and many more. The AbSpect system had also the unique capability to download the images of e.g. Kodak HS4540 without quality loss
about 25 times faster than the original GPIB transfer.
Already in 1998 the cooperation between LIMESS and CorrelatedSolutions Inc./USA started and since then new systems for the contactless 2D and 3D motion,
deformation and strain measurement are developped together. These systems are used for high speed applications like crash tests, pedestrian safety tests, optimization of airbags as well as for static applications
like material and stability tests, component tests, validation of FEM calculations, exploration of cracks and vibration analysis. The determination of material properties at static and highly dynamic tension tests
is an important base capability of the Vic2D and Vic3D software and leads therefore to accurate FEM simulations and helps developping and quantifying new materials. These unique systems are based on digital image
correlation technique and have following advantages:
* Measurement of 2D and 3D displacement, velocity and strain distributions on any surface
* Measurement field ranges from 10x10mm up to to 10x10m
* High
displacement accuracy of typically 1/100 of a pixel (e.g. 10µm displacement accuracy at a measurement field of 1x1m)
* Measurement at quasi static and highly dynamic events.
In addition to the steady
improvement of our systems customer specific solutions like image analysis software, post processing modules and turnkey systems are developped by the highly skilled and motivated engineers of LIMESS. Many of the
customer specific turnkey systems are used for quality control and online inspection in production.
Furthermore as a customer service we are carrying out deformation measurements and image sequence analysis.
