M=BUS® in EURO 2008 crash tests – Please celebrate with care
As during the past World and European Soccer Championships, fans will
surely come up in convoys also during this year’s Euro 2008. Even though these convoys move at low speed, collisions can cause fatal injuries.
This is due to a violation of many safety regulations like: exceeding the
permitted number of occupants, inappropriate use of seats („out of position“), lack of cargo securing etc.
Even at a speed of 30km/h accidents can end up lethally.
In corporation with our long term crash customer DTC - Dynamic Test Center
AG - the Swiss television station SF1 covered this topic in a TV report that was broad-casted on Swiss Television within the science magazine “Einstein”.
For the acquisition of physical properties such as acceleration, force and torque ap-plied to the dummy during
this crash test, once again our M=BUS® InDummy data acquisition system was used successfully. The M=BUS® system impressively proved its superb features in contrast to a centralized DAS during test
preparation, execution and data evaluation.
The time needed for a test preparation is minimized by the single-buswire concept and the use of TEDS
(transducer electronic data sheet) that are integrated in the M=BUS® loggers. As a result of this the positioning
of a dummy is much more time consuming than fixing an M=BUS® gateway in a car together with the subsequent dummy wiring by a single connector only. By the use of M=BUS® the impact of the dummy wiring
to the crash characteristics of the dummy can be neglected in contrast to a conventional (star-like) wiring. The
simultaneous download of all M=BUS® channels significantly speeds up the time by the availability of the data for analysis
