Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center Launches Airbag Lab
Microsys SureFire System Selected for it’s Industry Leading Technology
Mississauga ON Canada, 18 March 2008 Microsys is pleased to announce the recent launch of the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) Airbag Lab in
Shanghai China. PATAC is a 50-50 joint venture between General Motors (GM) and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. Group (SAIC). This lab is one of the
newest and most advanced safety labs in China, and will be used for engineering development of Shanghai GM vehicles, China’s leading auto maker.
PATAC selected the SureFire Airbag Deployment System from Microsys Technologies Inc. of Mississauga,
Canada. According to Henry Huang of PATAC , "We chose the Microsys SureFire system as they offered the
latest technology for airbag testing and had the highest level of applications knowledge in the industry. We have been very pleased with SureFire and the support we have received from Microsys in China."
“Partnering with such an esteemed organization as PATAC is an honor.”, said Corey Miller, President of Microsys
Technologies Inc. “Microsys was the first airbag test system supplier to enter the Chinese market, back in 2002,
and have since delivered numerous SureFire systems to Chinese OEMs, airbag makers and interior suppliers.
This has allowed our staff to learn about the unique operational needs of the Chinese customers, which results in superior test facilities that improve productivity and reduce errors.”
According to Frost & Sullivan, the passenger car passive safety systems market in China is in its growth stage.
Increasing consumer concern over safety is one of the factors contributing to this growth. In China, side and curtain airbags have been mainly installed in high-end luxury executive cars since 2005. However, vehicle
manufacturers are expected to increase the installation of these airbags across more vehicle segments. Frost &
Sullivan expects demand for these airbags to increase rapidly until 2012. As China’s largest R&D center, the new airbag lab positions PATAC to continue to it’s leadership position in China.
