Photron’s Breakthrough Camera Technology Produces Highest Speed Mega Pixel Video Camera Availablefull story

November 14, 2007 – San Diego, CA – Photron, Inc., a global high speed imaging system and image analysis software supplier, announces Phase II of the ultra-light-sensitive high speed imager, the Fastcam SA-1. The breakthrough high speed sensor technology in the next generation Fastcam SA-1 delivers up to 5,400 frames per second (fps) at full mega pixel (1,024 x 1,024) resolution and an unequalled 675,000 fps at reduced resolution. With true 12-bit resolution for extraordinary color fidelity, microsecond global shuttering and inter-frame timing, the improved high speed imager is also DC powered and features both SDI and RS-170 video outputs for easy integration.

Photron’s lightweight and compact CMOS camera is now available with three memory options including 8 GB, 16GB or 32GB for the most demanding imaging applications. Features include full control via Gigabit Ethernet, or for greater flexibility, the convenient remote control via the accompanying LCD keypad offers computer-free setup. The system is extremely intuitive with minimal or no operator training needed.  Photron’s newest mega pixel Fastcam SA-1 camera, like its Emmy winning predecessor, has a user-controlled variable region of interest (ROI) and also supports IRIG/GPS when precision time stamping and synchronization is required.
Ideal for imaging ultra high speed events and extremely fast moving objects, the Fastcam SA-1 camera is suitable for machine vision, military and aerospace, automotive and industrial markets.  An optional particle image velocimetry (PIV) facility is available to study the flow of gas in a wind-tunnel environment or to analyze flow in fluids.  Other slow motion video imaging applications include ballistic and missile testing, materials research, inkjet, vehicle impact analysis, cavitation, biomedical imaging, sports and entertainment, fluid dynamics and industrial motion analysis.
