carhs.communication brings new development environment viilab® for vehicle-to-vehicle communication to the market

The viilab® software assists automotive manufacturers and suppliers in developing their own car-to-X communication applications in the fields of vehicle safety, comfort, infotainment and traffic efficiency.

Integrated safety and comfort systems within the vehicle as well as efficient traffic management will in the future require the interconnectedness of vehicles and between vehicles and the infrastructure. carhs.communication gmbh in Alzenau near Aschaffenburg, Germany, has specialised on this area. With the open and scalable development environment viilab, carhs.communication has brought a new tool on the market, which helps develop and demonstrate car-to-X communication applications (also Car2X) within a short time span.

Car-to-X communication serves to optimize the traffic flow and noticeably increase traffic safety through the targeted transmission of information. If, for example, a car runs into a critical situation such as a traffic congestion, fog, glazed frost or an accident, it will pass on the relevant information to all concerned traffic participants in the immediate perimeter of the hazard area as well as to the infrastructure. The traffic participants are thus warned in due time and can react accordingly. Car-to-X communication is also the basic technology for a broad range of future comfort and infotainment applications.

Viilab is the first platform independent development environment in the world assisting automotive manufacturers and suppliers in developing their own applications for car-to-X communication.

Viilab incorporates two parallel concepts: it supports both the rapid development / rapid prototyping of communication designs and the low-level and thus highly efficient development of algorithms and hardware drivers.

For the first concept – rapid prototyping – a scripting language is used which has been specifically adapted to the needs and requirements of vehicle communication, e.g. for the logic combination of events in the communicating vehicle environment with vehicle electronics, actuating elements and navigation.

For the second concept - time-critical applications and the integration of existing software libraries - viilab offers a C++ API. Application developers can extend the functional scope of the scripting language successively, which ensures the highly dynamic further development of the available code basis.

Integrated data recording, live monitoring and the exchange of code between platforms, simulation and deployed systems are the basis for the specific viilab concept of “extended reality”. Elements of the future infrastructure and other vehicles can be superimposed in real test runs. It is also possible to reproduce already recorded data in a simulation environment in order to simplify the ex post analysis of communication scenarios.
viilab® is a registered trademark of carhs.communication gmbh.
