New accelerometers from MWS Sensorik
Pfaffenhofen, 30 April 2004 – MWS Sensorik has developed two new miniature
accelerometers specially for use in crash tests. The high-performance MWS 1501 and MWS 1501A analysers can be attached to dummies and sensitive vehicle components.
The piezo-resistive, uniaxial sensor elements can be used in many ways, since
they are extremely small and weigh just one gram. They are also extremely shock-resistant. Thanks to the minimal transverse sensitivity of their high-quality
silicon chip, which is protected against overload by a mechanical stop, disturbances of the measuring signal are virtually excluded. The measuring range
is between 750 g and 1,000 g, while the frequency band ranges from 0 to 4,000 Hz. The accelerometers also feature integrated damping. The sensor’s dimensions, in other words the fastening
and arrangement of the bores to the centre of seismic mass, correspond to the absorber types specified in the SA572-S4 standard.
The temperature-compensated MWS 1501A has a precision booster located outside the sensor. The sensor can
be fed with between 9 and 30 Volts. What’s more, both models – MWS 1501 and MWS 1501A – can be connected to all data management systems thanks to their four-wire system. Both sensors are designed to meet
customers’ needs. They can, at the customer’s request, be adapted specially to the requirements of the individual
application and be equipped with high-quality modules and cables, for example. This means that both the MWS 1501 and the MWS 1501A can be equipped with shunt resistors or sense wires. What’s more, Dallas modules or
common ID modules can also be installed.
“Working closely with our customers, we develop customised solutions that are geared towards the specifics of
each individual application. Because the areas of application of these analysers depend greatly on their size, we
are concentrating on miniaturising our components and systems. With our new, high-precision MWS 1501 and MWS 1501A accelerometers, we have once again succeeded in broadening the areas of application for
analysers thanks to their ever-decreasing size”, says Peter Bay, Managing Director of MWS Sensorik GmbH.
The innovative company from Pfaffenhofen near Munich provides advice on the best possible use of sensors
and information on other areas of application, and also offers maintenance and calibration services.
