INSTRON® STRUCTURAL TESTING SYSTEM ANNOUNCES ENHANCED SERVOHYDRAULIC CRASH SIMULATION SLED

I
nstron® Structural Testing (IST), a leading provider of solutions for the physical testing of structures and components, announces its enhanced servohydraulic crash simulation sled for testing interior safety components and subsystems of vehicles.  This unique system tests restraints, airbags, seats and other interior safety components without destroying the structure to ensure time-efficient and cost-effective vehicle development.

With the recent addition of side impact and pitching/vertical motion capabilities, IST’s enhanced servohydraulic crash simulation sled provides more accurate simulation of occupant kinematics and resulting injuries that occur in real-life crash events.  These additional capabilities can assist in the development of better airbags and restraint systems, substantially increasing the value of laboratory-based crash sled testing.  IST is the first and only sled supplier to demonstrate a practical, working solution for pitching simulation.

IST’s enhanced servohydraulic crash sled is 100% computer controlled, and utilizes best-in-class non-linear software modeling techniques.  Because it features a point-and-click interface, users do not need extensive knowledge of complex control algorithms. The software models provide accurate predictions of performance and specimen response. Ultimately, these features reduce the number of full-scale barrier tests required and provide shorter development times for the vehicle.

About Instron Structural Testing Systems (IST)

Instron Structural Testing Systems is one of the leading suppliers of hydraulic testing systems worldwide. For more than 100 years, IST has been developing testing systems for the automotive and ground transportation industry. Innovative developments in the areas of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, measuring systems, computer systems and application software are integrated into powerful, customer-focused testing systems.

Due to the modular design of IST’s test rigs, individual components can be tailored exactly to the specific requirements of an application. IST's areas of operations encompass the testing of prototype components and vehicles in the research and development process, as well as quality tests on the end product in the manufacturing process. This enables IST to provide a cost-efficient solution, which optimizes cycle times, minimizes manufacturing costs and increases efficiency and quality.

With IST's extensive experience in the production of a variety of different testing systems, customers can be sure they will receive a testing system that has been deployed successfully all over the world - an investment that is protected well into the future.
