POSITION TRANSDUCERS FOR MONITORING HIGH-ACCELERATION MOTION
PALMDALE, CALIFORNIA USA -- Expanding the range of its position transducers, SpaceAge Control, Inc. is now shipping the Series 161H and 162H position transducers that contain high cable tension for monitoring high acceleration motion. The products are compact in size but offer up to 42.5 inches (1079 mm) of measurement range. Typical applications include automotive crash testing, explosion research, and ordnance testing.
Developed as a space-saving alternative to rod-and-cylinder products such as LVDTs and linear potentiometers, the flexible and
easy-to-install products use a stainless steel cable wound around a spring-powered, precision-machined drum.
The bearing-mounted drum is mated to a precision rotary sensor that translates linear position information to an electrical signal. This transducer technology gives high precision, easy installation, fast setup, and frequency responses in excess of 50 g's. The products may be quickly mounted using mounting screws provided, an optional rotatable mounting base, or custom installation plates.
Applications to date include vehicle crash testing involving seats, steering wheels, doors, and bumpers; building explosion-proofness;
and howitzer response monitoring. The products may be ordered with one of two outputs: AC/DC analog or digital TTL-compatible quadrature output. The analog-output products feature 5K ohm, hybrid, precision
potentiometers; a -55° to +125° C operating temperature range; ±0.5% linearity; and 500,000 full-stroke minimum operational life. The digital-output products are available with index lines and standard
resolutions up to 326 codes per inch (12.8 codes per mm), a -49° to +185° F (-45° to +85° C) operating temperature range, 5 V power requirement, and operate in excess of 5 million full-stroke cycles.
All products are 3.00 inches (76.2 mm) in diameter or smaller and weigh less than 22 oz. (616 g).
