FTSS BioRID II Dummy Introduction
FTSS is pleased to announce the completion of its BioRID II Rear Impact Crash Test
dummy development, which is now available in the FTSS product line. BioRID II is a dummy designed to assess the effects of rear-end collisions. Its primary purpose is to
research whiplash injuries and to aid designers in developing effective head and neck restraints in vehicles. For this purpose the BioRID II has a sophisticated spinal column
construction that allows a natural seating posture and replication of neck movements seen in rear-end collisions. In fabricating the dummy, FTSS has solicited user feedback from industry and test
houses, incorporating subtle improvements related to repeatability, reproducibility and usability while leaving the dummy performance unaffected.
For further details on the FTSS BioRID II, please use the link to the official data sheet or contact FTSS-Europe BV (+31-15-2192040)

The ERNST Company has completed the new Porsche test center
Porsche AG in Weissach obtains state of the art roof crush test bed The
ERNST + Co Prüfmaschinen GmbH has produced a roof crush test bed for the Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG test center in Weissach. The roof crush test bed is designed for tests according to FMVSS 216. However, the device
surpasses the specifications of the FMVSS-regulation by far. This allows for a maximum test force of 245 kN, at which the device deforms less than 1 mm.
This stiffness produces high-precision test readings. The five axes are all electromechanically powered and are connected directly with the test beds
control system. A maximum in accuracy and stiffness of the roof crush test bed is warranted by using the recirculating ballscrew and linear ways. read full story in pdf format

Denton COE completes integration of the DTS SLICE NANOTM technology into Q1.5 and Q3 Child Dummies
Since many years Denton COE has successfully developed integration solutions for in-dummy DAS systems, primarily for the Hentschel DTI
technology. Up till now Denton COE has installed about 60 in-dummy systems into different types of crash test dummies.
The latest project was the integration of the new DTS SLICE nano
technology into the Q1.5 and Q3 child dummies. Naturally, the integration of a DAS system into child dummies is very challenging due to the limited space given inside the ATD.

Denton SID-IIsD Dummy Completed
Denton is pleased to announce the completion of the SID-IIsD Crash Test dummy
which is now available. The SID-IIs dummy has gone through various development stages (build levels, FRG etc.) and Denton decided to wait until a
final version of this dummy had been specified by the NHTSA (49 CFR Part 572, SubpartV). The development of the Denton SID-IIsD has been determined by a
new approach in the development and production of crash test dummies. Where in the past a dummy was built according to a given set of drawings and
components were tested only to the certification requirements, Denton has invested extensive time in the evaluation and understanding of the material
properties. Consequently, we can now offer a test device of which the key factors of influence are well known and controlled in order to have a more
consistently manufactured test device. Furthermore, the certification of the dummy components has become much more repeatable and reproducible since
we are able to apply a much narrower certification corridor to all dummy components. As a result of all accumulated efforts, the variability of testing with
our test dummies will significantly decrease. Naturally, our world wide customers will benefit from all the experience we gained during the development as well as all the tools we
designed for making the certification testing of this ATD more repeatable. The complete SID-IIsD dummy as well as all spare parts are currently in production. For further details on the Denton SID-IIsD, please use the link to the official data sheet.

ES-2 Neck Brace Development from Denton COE
The position of the dummies head has a strong influence on the test results in
crash tests, especially on the ES-2 dummy the head angle / head position can vary from dummy to dummy. The reasons for this variation are the design and
material of the neck and neck bumpers as well as the permanent load on the neck due to the head weight.
In order to keep the neck and head in a defined and unstressed position during
dummy storage, Denton COE has developed a neck brace which prevents permanent bending of the neck and compression of the neck bumpers.
Each ES-2 or ES-2re dummy should be equipped with a neck brace, please
contact Denton COE or your local Denton representative for a free of charge neck brace. Download Press Release in pdf Format

FTSS Presents Flex-PLI-GTR (Flexible - Pedestrian Legform Impactor – Global Technical Regulation)
In the year 2000, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc (JAMA) together with
the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI) initiated the development of a pedestrian legform impactor to assess lower leg injury on pedestrians in car accidents. The legform at
that time used rigid long bones, so to improve biofidelity a flexible bone arrangement was considered. In 2002, an initial design of Flex-PLI was made available, followed by the Flex-GT version in
2006. In September 2005, a Technical Evaluation Group (Flex TEG) was founded under the UN/ECE/WP29/GRSP/ informal group consisting of government and industrial parties to
evaluate the legform as a regulatory purpose test tool for Global Technical Regulation on Pedestrian Safety (PS-GTR). First Technology Safety Systems (FTSS) is part of this group as
the dummy manufacturer and was asked to review the GT design and manufacture the legform. The review kicked off in August of 2007 and highlighted a number of improvements;
the proposed Flex-PLI-GTR design was accepted in April 2008. The performance of the legform was to be unchanged to maintain biofidelity and to ensure existing test data remained
valid. Therefore, the existing overall design, size, mass and materials were maintained as much as possible. click here for full story click here for Technical Product Sheet

Seattle Safety / ZSE ServoSled System with a nominal force up to 3.1 MN
The SESA acceleration sled system has been named, ServoSled, and this
system is the next step forward in sled technology. Like the conventional servo-hydraulic sleds, the system uses computer- controlled servo-valves to
form the pulse, but the fluid does not itself push the sled. Instead the servo-hydraulic system modulates the pressure applied to a hydraulic friction
brake which controls the net force and energy applied to the sled by a pneumatic actuator. The advantage of this approach is that standard industrial
single-stage servo-valves and small hydraulic power units can be used with resulting higher frequency response and low cost, complexity, and maintenance. Download Data Sheet in pdf Format
