MESSRING Facility Honored as “2015 Crash Test Facility of the Year”

Protech crash-test facility receives renowned award / complete facility and InDummy data acquisition technology developed and equipped by the German crash specialists

Munich, November 27, 2015 - The company MESSRING from Krailling, near Munich, once again succeeded in beating out the competition this year. The company received the “Crash Test Facility of the Year” award for the fourth time for a facility it developed and constructed. The owner and operator of the ground-breaking project is the Chinese automotive supplier Protech.

The renowned English publishing company UKIP has presented the coveted award since 2006 to honor outstanding projects and innovations in the automotive industry. John Thornton, chairman of the Automotive Testing Technology International Awards, explained on behalf of the international expert jury just why they selected the facility from Protech this year: "Protech is a deserving winner of the Crash Test Facility of the Year Award. There was stiff competition in this category with several state-of-the-art passive safety centers in the running, but Protech's Nanjing facility won thanks to its new advanced technologies and cutting-edge dummy calibration laboratory, which – thanks to the key role played by leading manufacturer Messring – is among the highest specification commercially available in the Asian automotive sector."

Emergency braking assistancesystems:  MESSRING offers new and official NHTSA test  equipment for the American market

Munich, November 18, 2015–For months, there has been much speculation in the  automotive industry, and now it’s finally official: The Strikeable Surrogate Vehicle (or  “SSV” for short) is the new test system which the American NHTSA (National Highway  Traffic Safety Administration) will be using to test emergency braking assistance systems in the US. This is because the US NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) will  be adopting Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) as the recommended safety  technology in the assessment criteria for all new vehicles as of 2018. This is the USA’s  reaction to the rising importance of assistance systems which can prevent accidents or reduce the consequences of accidents through early intervention in hazardous  situations. In the test, the SSV simulates a vehicle driving aheadwhich is detected by  the test specimen’s assist system and triggers a braking or evasion maneuver. The SSV  consists of a carbon target which realistically mimics the rear end of a car which is  pulled by a sled carrier structure with a towing vehicle along a guide track rail which is to  be installed over nearly 460m of a test track.full story

MESSRING constructs its first-ever forward-looking laboratory for dummy calibration

Munich / Germany, July 20, 2015 – For the first time in the company’s history, MESSRING based in Krailling planned and equipped a dummy calibration laboratory complete with cutting-edge technology for its customer GSK Protech in Nanjing, China. The lab was commissioned on schedule at the end of 2014.
For the Chinese supplier GSK Protech, it’s absolutely essential to test its own products such as airbags and electronic parts on test rigs, which is why a decision was made at the end of 2012 to construct a complete crashtest facility with laboratory for automated calibration of transducers at the new site in eastern China. Most importantly, the calibration laboratory needed to set new benchmarks in the certification of dummy transducers. A great deal of attention went into occupational safety and operating comfort, which isn’t necessarily the case with conventional, highly pragmatic test facilities. The new laboratory will even conform to the most stringent European occupational safety and health guidelines. GSK Protech has successfully launched the full range of cutting-edge InDummy systems, MESSRING’s M=BUS series, which promotes a much higher level of productivity in daily operations than classic solutions. All measurement instruments, test rigs including crash facility, and calibration systems are managed using the centralized, company-wide software package CrashSoft, which not only plays a key role in ensuring data security and quality, but is also unique throughout China.

CARISSMA: the New Scientific Center for Vehicle Safety in GermanyClick to enlarge

Major automotive research project at a German university will begin activities in 2016 / MESSRING will plan and equip the crash-test facility at the Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences / Total value of the research project €28 million

Munich / April 9, 2015  - Many key developments in the field of road and vehicle safety originate from research projects carried out at German universities. The results of these projects are often seamlessly incorporated into new developments by automotive manufacturers – with the clear goal of making advancements to vehicles’ active and passive safety systems. A groundbreaking test center for research and development in the field of vehicle safety in Germany is currently being established at the Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences. The goal for the CARISSMA (Center of Automotive Research on Integrated Safety Systems and Measurement Area) project is to become the leading scientific center for integrated safety in Germany. In this context, integrated means that – for the first time in Germany – not only will partial aspects such as airbags, auto body, and active safety systems be studied, but also the overall concept of all safety-related topics in the vehicle will be studied at a central location. The whole project is headed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Brandmeier from the University of Ingolstadt.

After 2012, this is now the third time the award has been given to a facility that was designed and built by MESSRING. The system, which began operation in May 2013, sets completely new global standards and offers the testing authority a never-before-seen variety of tests and level of precision.

September 2014 - Numerous developments in the area of vehicle safety are significantly influenced as a result of current NCAP or NHTSA regulations and then realized and implemented by manufacturers and their suppliers. The situation in China is similar, only that it’s not the rules and guidelines of the different associations but several state authorities are responsible for testing and the development of new protocols. Between 2010 and 2013, the German company MESSRING planned, constructed, and installed a crash-test facility that sets new global standards for CAERI, the institute located in Chongqing. CAERI, was founded in 1965 and is responsible for all tests involving vehicle models (motorcycles, cars, buses, and trucks). A further business segment is the provision of its state-of-the-art crash-test facilities for domestic automobile manufacturers and suppliers like Changan.

Hydrobrake with deceleration sled installed at Transport Canada’s state-of-the-art test facility in Canada

Munich, May 26, 2014 Acceleration or deceleration? Or both? This question comes into play when engineers are planning a crash test facility and have to determine the most effective way of testing their vehicles and components. PMG Technologies, the firm responsible for managing the test facility for Transport Canada and for providing expert test services to international clients, has successfully integrated both technologies since March 31, 2014. PMG Technologies worked closely with MESSRING to plan and install the highly precise MESSRING propulsion system in 2011. The crash lab, which measures 5,300 m² and includes the capability of conducting moving car to moving car frontal, side and oblique impact crash tests is considered to be one of the world’s most sophisticated crash test facilities. The acquisition of a deceleration sled from the crash test specialists in Bavaria has expanded the testing capacity and capability of sled test services offered by PMG Technologies. One of the benefits of the deceleration crash technology is that the direction of movement is synchronous with the crash rather than inverse, as is the case with acceleration tests.

HUMANETICS Europe hosts first WorldSID User Meeting

On February 11th and 12th Humanetics Europe hosted the first European WorldSID User Meeting in Heidelberg, Germany. Almost 50 Users from 8 different European countries came to this successful event.

During the two days the users received many udates from the working groups and had the chance to learn details about the WorldSID in several hand-on sessions. Experience exchange and the networking with other users was one of the most important topics of this event. After two busy days there was only one question left: “When will be the next Humanetics WorldSID User Meeting?”
